If someone in another country has a claim against you, different rules apply depending on what type of debt it is.
In many cases the creditor can refer to international agreements in order to request our help in recovering the debt in Sweden.
Have you received a payment injunction from us that concerns a debt in another country? In that case the same rules apply as for Swedish payment injunctions.
If you want to appeal you have to do so directly to the foreign entity that issued the ruling or decision.
Your creditor can also apply to us for a European payment injunction, or payment order, against you.
Foreign debts are covered by Swedish debt restructuring under the same conditions as other debts. Debt restructuring initiated on or after 26 June 2017 applies in the entire European Union, with the exception of Denmark. This means that debts included in your Swedish debt restructuring process cannot be recovered within the EU, except in Denmark. Debts originating in a country outside the EU and covered by a Swedish debt restructuring decision can still be recovered in countries outside the EU.
A Swedish debt restructuring process initiated before 26 June 2017 is still only applicable in Sweden.
